A Deer Park Country House Wedding – Sarah Hall – Natural Wedding Photography in Honiton

There are some wedding venues that seem made for photography, and Deer Park Country House near Honiton, Devon, is certainly one of them. Set within acres of beautiful East Devon countryside, Deer Park combines the elegance of a country house wedding with gorgeous gardens, characterful interiors and wonderfully relaxed spaces where couples and their guests can simply enjoy the day.

I recently had the pleasure of returning to Deer Park Country House to photograph another beautiful wedding, and it was one of those days that reminded me exactly why I love being a wedding photographer in Devon.

But for me, wedding photography isn’t only about the photographs. You’re Choosing a Photographer – But Also a Person

Wedding Photography – You Are Not Simply Buying Photographs !

When you choose your wedding photographer, you’re choosing someone who could spend 8–11 hours alongside you, your closest friends and your family on one of the most important and emotional days of your life.
That’s quite a privilege – and it’s why I believe personality matters enormously.

Of course, you need to love your photographer’s work. You need to feel confident that they’ll capture the emotion, atmosphere and little details that make your wedding unique and you also need to like having them around.

I want my couples to feel that I’m someone they can relax with, laugh with and trust. Someone who can chat naturally with your parents, grandparents and friends, help settle a few nerves when needed and then quietly disappear into the background when those wonderful unscripted moments start happening.

That’s when the magic happens.

Wedding Photography Where You Can Forget About the Camera

One of the greatest compliments I receive from couples and their guests is that they quickly forget I’m there with a camera.

That’s exactly what I’m aiming for.

My approach to wedding photography in Devon is natural, relaxed and documentary-led. Rather than constantly directing people or creating forced poses, I want to give everyone enough space to enjoy the wedding.

I work hard to make people feel comfortable from the moment we meet. I’m warm, approachable and genuinely interested in the people I’m photographing. I’ll happily chat with your guests, share a laugh and become part of the atmosphere of the wedding rather than standing on the edge of it.

Couples and guests often tell me that I’m warm, friendly and approachable, that I blend naturally into the wedding and that I’m particularly good at helping people who aren’t confident in front of a camera feel completely at ease.

And that’s incredibly important to me, because once people relax, they stop being photographed and simply start being themselves. That’s where the real photographs are.

Sarah Hall Photography – Capturing The Real Story Of A Wedding

It’s about people. It’s the expression on a parent’s face just before the ceremony. The bridesmaids laughing while getting ready. The hugs that last a little longer than expected. Children running around the gardens. Friends catching up over drinks. The reaction during a speech. The spontaneous kiss, the ridiculous dance move and the laughter that follows.
They’re fleeting moments – and they’re often the photographs that become the most precious.

My style of natural wedding photography is about watching for those moments and capturing them without interrupting them.

I want your photographs to remind you not only of what your wedding looked like, but how it felt to be there.

Relaxed Wedding Portraits Without Awkward Posing

I completely understand that not everybody enjoys having their photograph taken.
In fact, one of the things I hear most often when meeting couples is:
“We’re really awkward in front of a camera!” That’s absolutely fine.
You don’t need to know how to pose. You don’t need to practise your smile. And you certainly don’t need to spend your wedding worrying about where you’re supposed to put your hands! Part of my job is creating enough trust that you can relax and forget about the camera.
The result is photography that feels like you, rather than a version of you created especially for the camera.

A Wedding Photographer Who Becomes Part Of The Day

You’re trusting someone to step into a very personal celebration and document moments involving the people who matter most to you. That’s why warmth, friendliness and empathy are such an important part of the way I work. I don’t want to spend your wedding hiding behind a camera. I want to connect with people.

I’ll chat with your guests, learn who’s who, laugh with the wedding party and help people feel comfortable. But equally, I know when to step away and quietly observe. Finding that balance allows me to blend in with your guests while still noticing the moments happening around me. It’s often why people tell me afterwards that it felt as though I was another guest at the wedding – just one who happened to have a camera!
